What is BMI and why does it matter?
BMI is calculated by dividing weight in kilograms by height in meters squared: BMI = weight ÷ (height)². It's a fast, free tool used by doctors worldwide as an initial indicator of weight-related health risk.
That said, BMI has limits — it doesn't distinguish between muscle mass and fat mass, so athletes with a lot of muscle can show up as "overweight" despite low body fat. It's best used alongside other measures like body fat percentage and waist circumference.
